The more we talk about mental health at work, the better. This is something that needs to be spoken about openly among employees so they feel comfortable at work to say when they are not ok. Education and awareness should help over time and I do think this has improved in the last few years, however we are still hesitant to ask for what we need and have a long way to go. If your employees aren't in a good head space, how will that affect their performance? We need to adopt flexibility when it is needed.
I am fortunate to work for a company who supports mental health and takes it seriously.
In short, we need more flexibility, sensitivity, and open-mindedness from employers. The same treatment and attention they’d give to a broken bone or maternity leave. We’re not there yet, but some companies are trying to bring conversations about mental health to the forefront.
