Congratulations to Imperial College London who this week received prestigious recognition from the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC International) .
Whilst animal welfare is a subject very close to my heart, it's an uncomfortable reality that research using animals can lead to important scientific breakthroughs.
It's good to see that Imperial take the responsibility for the welfare and care of the test subjects seriously and have been recognised for operating at the highest standards.
Congratulations to Ian Walmsley recently appointed Provost (ex University of Oxford), and Rob Floyd who lead the application.
Staff training and facilities are all geared towards delivering scientific excellence whilst minimising the suffering of animals. Now the department has been recognised by AAALAC for the high standard of its care.
