Do we all stink of hypocrisy? I deactivated over a year ago I think. Today I deleted Facebook, when I found out how you could. For me it was just the amount of time Facebook was taking from my life combined with the narcissistic nature of the site.
So, a few big names are leaving Facebook, but they all probably have Facebook owned Instagram accounts. I do. You will also remember all those advertisers screaming with rage and pulling their ads. Well they screamed and then upped their adspend as Facebook ad revenues increased after the data breach story broke. It just goes to show that if you have a platform where people can successfully sell stuff, then you still succeed.
I have seen no data showing that Facebook employees have resigned in droves on discovering they were part of one of the world's biggest privacy breaches and connecting people was the aim regardless of anything else. Neither did Google employees head for the door on realising they were part of a business funding terrorism via Google-owned YouTube. Ironically thousands of Google employees have signed a petition against Google for the company's supportive work with the US military. Yes a real smell of hypocrisy lingers...
Elon Musk and WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton, as well as red-carpet regulars Will Ferrell, Cher, Rosie O’Donnell, Jim Carrey and the band Massive Attack. Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, most recently denounced the social medium for its covetous data tactics. The number of daily #DeleteFacebook mentions in mainstream newspapers topped out at 1,700 two weeks ago but remains above 300, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
