Japan has a lot of interesting work place customs. Not leaving work before your boss, regular drinks sessions with your boss where you can tell them (usually a him) exactly what you think and it is forgotten the next day, not challenging your boss on decisions or causing loss of face and many more. 

Japan is still one of the world's economic power houses. As the UK publishes woeful productivity levels, the news from Japan is a sad example of the other end of the spectrum. With the exception of junior hospital doctors, junior legal and finance execs who are slaves to their billing hours, I can't think of many other workplaces in the UK where anyone is likely to suffer from 'karoshi'...
