An interesting piece on the reported average time that Trainee and Junior lawyers leave the office, which does little to dispel the myth that law firms work their Trainees hard.
The survey of 1500 trainees seems to add credence to the findings, but it's notable that there are differences depending on the legal sector you work in.
I'd be interested to gauge how working hours compare for Trainees working in the intellectual property sector. Is there a more comparable work/life balance for example?
On a more positive note, many respondents to our survey noted how working hours vary vastly between departments, with “some parts of the office dead by 6.30pm whilst others are bustling until 2am” at one City outfit renowned for its long hours. Deal-driven corporate finance work was said to demand the most late nights.
