In April this year Facebook launched a new Messenger platform which allows businesses to create messenger bots to automatically interact with their customers.
This chatbot technology existed already but coupled with the reach of Facebook Messenger (1 billion monthly users) many brands have been quick to get involved.
AmEx will be piloting real-time notifications to their customers, following a plane ticket purchase with - for example- their receipt, an airport lounge reminder and restaurant recommendations for their destination.
Pizza Hut will launch a social ordering platform that will allow the restaurant's customers to place orders on Facebook Messenger and on Twitter too.
But this month, the company is rolling out a platform that plugs into Facebook Messenger to make ordering a pepperoni pie even easier. The location-based bot will allow customers to chat with a rep through a Facebook account and take advantage of deals from nearby restaurants. It will also automatically fill in delivery information and save their favorite orders.
