Marissa Meyer is clearly a very intelligent person and soon after taking the reins at Yahoo embarked on an acquisition strategy aimed not at just technology, but critically the talent employed in the acquired companies.  This was a bold recruitment strategy although the average hiring cost must have gone through the roof as Messageme, Vizify, EvntLive, Stamped, OntheAir, Snip.it, Alike, Jybe, Summly, Astrid, GoPollGo, Milewise, Qwiki, Xobni, Ztelic, RockMelt, Bread and others were all shutdown post acquisition with key staff transferring to Yahoo. However before you think they got it wrong the share price under Mayer's leadership increased 151% although it is influenced by Yahoo's stake in Alibaba which was pre Mayer. Either way a fascinating example of investment in talent
