Ignoring the rights and wrongs of maintaining a nuclear deterrent or weapons of mass destruction, depending on how you view this issue, it is hard to contemplate making the decision to press the button and thereby kills hundreds of thousands of people. Health professionals, emergency services and the military have to make life or death decisions but nothing on the scale of this magnitude. It helps us put our own work related decision making challenges into perspective. Whether as a manager or individual what we decide will effect a few people or even no one. Yes, we still need to consider the issues and ideally build a consensus for the decision, but at the point of making it we can reduce our stress by considering the decisions world leaders have to make in our name. It's not a job I would want to do.
Theresa May has declared without hesitation that she would order a nuclear strike to kill hundreds of thousands of people if she thought it was necessary.
